Flywheels and Ring Gears

DESCRIPTION

The rotation of the crankshaft is not uniform because the cylinders follow useful and passive phases. To make it as homogeneous as possible, to reduce the accelerations and decelerations, is used the flywheel. The flywheel consists of a large disk fixed to a crankshaft end which accumulates mechanical energy during the useful phases to return it during the passive ones. The ring gears is a device usually connected to the flywheel by a splice with an interference fit or by a bolting. It has the shape of a large gear and has the function of starting the engine by the connection with the starter motor.
