Crankcases

It is the component in which the parts of the crank mechanism are installed (crankshaft, connecting rods). It is the “backbone” of the engine, in which the main bearings are always derived and almost always it also incorporates the cylinder block. It consists of a cast iron or aluminum alloy, often equipped with a series of stiffening ribs in the most critical points. Normally the crankcase of an automotive engine is closed by the cylinder head at the top and by the oil pan at the bottom.
